‘Spirituality takes you away from reality’.
Often left-brain subscribing folks love this argument so much that they would pin it to the wall of their finest victories, showing off how sharp their minds really are.
Throw them a near-death experience and they would write it off as chemical reactions before the brain shuts down.
Throw them a kiss, and they debunk into neurological processes.
Spirituality doesn’t take you away from reality, as some critics of free-thinking spirituality would claim, it gets us in touch with Reality V2.
I like both sides of the tale, since a kiss will carpet bomb the nervous systems with all the cool drugs we can produce inside, and the other side, the spiritual side, just adds to that – and a kiss can send you eons back in time, and make you write inspiring poems about the anatomy of love.
It seems so silly not to embed both sides of the story, for whatever story we are telling or experiencing. Luckily the war between science and spirituality, the more subjective way of experiencing life, seems to have gone into a ceasefire, as goes for personal belief patterns. I wish it would do the same when the talk targets alternative treatments, mostly homeopathy. But again, some alternative treatments are way out there and so are the treatments that pure science has to offer.
Before we even enter those thoughts or beliefs, either in Science or in Spirituality, it might help to define: Objective Reality and Subjective Reality.
Science would say that 1 kilo of Sugar is one kilo of sugar.
I know that, but sometimes it feels heavy and sometimes it feels light. Depends. So the idea of 1 kilo is impacted by something else: Could be the mood, could be laziness, could be that I don’t dig sugar. But it still is 1 kilo.
So why agree or why disagree? Not that important really.
With the concept of ‘Reality’ now morphing into science: I think I have seen 100 headlines from Science: We live in a hologram or Reality is not real – well, that is actually what enlightened people have been saying and seeing and sensing for millennia.
Good, but anyway: Those bills on the desk; who doesn’t really know how to stay in line; or a lover’s breakup, or a broken arm; sure feels real no matter if it hits cutting edge science or somebody drifting away strung out on funny mushrooms while repeating the ‘OM’ in an endless chant.
So, if this reality is manufactured fiction posing as reality – it’s confusing and if folks out there who scream “Reality is a hoax” would please explain this predicament once and for all it would be so relieving. Haven’t met anybody yet. Haven’t read anybody yet.
At one point the left brainer might be right, since along the spiritual path there will come a time where we will have a really hard time plugging into the reality that surrounds us. We seem to forget it: Shit, the rent was due 5 weeks ago, should have paid it.
I have this meeting, but forgot. This person is talking to me, but I don’t listen. Somebody is in distress; I don’t really care.
It comes if we detach too quickly.
I have trouble with people saying: Detach from All! It is spiritually and mundane throwing yourself in front of a train. And furthermore:
We cannot detach from anything that we do not understand. We have to ‘see’ and feel the necessity of detaching before we can do it.
Some detachments are easy, but they can’t be listed.
This is subjective reality and we´re all different and we don’t have the same burdens in our burden baskets. We don’t come from the same place. We don’t have the same emotional software. Some actually like their biological family – others just want out.
Some have shitty jobs in the Matrix of things, and would like to buy a $500 lot in remote Guatemala and start growing Avocados and trip on DMT while waiting for them to ripen.
Some really think they have an interesting job in the Matrix of things and would like to keep it, see the Matrix existence through and be well buried and mentioned in some newspaper. Very cool.
We need to respect the choices and we need to respect the differences in levels of detachment.
If we don’t we´re no better that the elitist, than the cults, and we mirror the angry rightfulness that both major religions and the political systems construct – that have people entrapped in systems of beliefs.
Loosing our grip on the defined (no matter by whom) nature of reality is a curve on the road and it often puts us in a Limbo. We can’t use the word Void to cover this, since it is a Limbo. A no-man’s-land.
A Limbo is counterproductive and as said, it is not to be mistaken for the Void. I have met too many people in Limbo – without one single grip on any form of reality. They have very unhappy eyes, and yet they try to convince you that they are detached. They are not. In Limbo is being and feeling lost.
If we find ourselves in a limbo of missing our grip on the reality of the lives we´re living, it’s not healthy to stay there – but a necessity on the way – and we need to pull ourselves out of it.
How? By going Karma Yoga.
Start with the little things. Take a bath (yes it actually happens people forget), go for the groceries and don’t send your lover or friends, check your money situation, brush your teeth, administer yourself, keep your appointments.
The confusion of being distracted by reality is not a real spiritual thing. It is a mark on the way.
Handling reality along with your spirituality is the right way.
The thing to know is:
When we engage in in-depth spirituality, and that is a hard and weary road, a lot of reality as defined by left brain people, left brain bureaucracy, left brain laws and so on, read: Systems of Control. It becomes so ridicules that we have to let that expression of reality go away in order to lead a spiritually genuine life.
A spiritually genuine life is what you want it to be. And Not the expectations thrown at you either by your ego or by the ‘too spiritual ambitious’.
And the left brainer can go: You are losing grip on reality and we can answer:
‘We sure are but only the ´reality´ that I can’t see the point to.’
When we can answer that way, we start to form our own subjective personal reality and when others do the same, we start to form a new collective reality.
We start to re-create our world and when we do that, we start to build a new world.
A conscious new world of the Heart. Reality to some, already.
Have great fun. Carry Water/Chop Wood.
