Looking for an alternative to Gmail and such?
Maybe try: Runbox.
There is a free trial for 30 days.
I have no financial ties with Runbox or such, my motive is to point to heightened Privacy and to disengage from predatory tech giants. It is the power we have as users: to disengage and not to be seen as mindless consumers for the advertising industry and whatnot.
Runbox provides you with some good alternatives as goes for picking the right email for you. If you decide to let go of spying email providers, Runbox also offers to migrate your mails if you decide to move your mail, and you can set Gmail, Hotmail or others to auto-forward to your Runbox mail.
I also like that Runbox, as soon as the Facebook privacy leak hit the media, disengaged from Facebook.
Here is some info from their site:
‘Both individuals and businesses increasingly desire a high level of privacy in online communication to prevent their data from being monitored or accessed inappropriately. The right to privacy is an important principle protecting a person’s private sphere, which extends to our online lives and our email communication.
Meanwhile, intelligence agencies utilize surveillance technologies to monitor digital communication in the perceived interest of national security. And some email providers screen email communication in order to display targeted advertisements to the user, or store message contents and personal data in order to extract information that may be shared with third parties for commercial gain (so-called “data mining”).
Runbox is committed to protecting your privacy from such intrusions, as laid out in our Privacy Commitment.’ Source
‘Runbox will never use the contents of your messages or other data in any other context such as some email providers do. Gmail, for instance, state in their Terms of Service that they reserve the right to use, reproduce, and publish any content you send through their services.‘ Source
The interface is very straight forward and easy to use.

For some solutions, there is a ‘2 year for the price of 1 year’ discount.
One could argue: Why pay for email when the others are free.
The price one pays for ‘free’ email is surveillance and monitoring.
There is no such thing as ‘free’ email communication.
A study by Vienna University of Business and Economics, which compares Runbox to 4 other major email services.
